A Profile of Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School

One of the oldest schools in Meghalaya established by a handful of public spirited Gorkha Servicemen and Ex-servicemen of vision and educated intelligentsia, the Gorkha Pathshala had its initial beginning as a humble elementary School generally known as the Library School. Later in the year 1928 the School was upgraded to Middle English School and was brought under the deficit Scheme of Grant-in-aid in 1957. In 1965, it was upgraded to High School status and was affiliated to the Meghalaya Board of School Education in 1986 and under the State Government Deficit System in 1989.

With 1400 plus student, the School was further upgraded with effect from August, 1998 to Higher Secondary Level for providing Science stream of education to the growing needs of the students and the society and had its affiliation under the MBOSE the same year. The school further introduced the Commerce stream in the year 2009. The first batch of students provided 100% result in the Commerce Stream in the year 2011. This institution has been registered under the Societies Registration Act. (Act. XXI of 1860) vide Certificate of Registration No. SR/GPMS-204/83 of 1983. The School having achieved and maintained consistently outstanding results in the Board's Higher Secondary and Secondary Examinations, the Director of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Meghalaya has awarded the "Letters of excellence" to it. Creating an environment for the right and purposeful development of our students, the school has experienced and very well-qualified teaching faculties. It has adequately stocked Library and Fully equipped Science Laboratories and Computer education infrastructure. To keep pace with the modern technology the school provides Online Library facilities and the Audio/visual Classes for the students. To sensitize our students, the School promotes sports and extracurricular activities and provides opportunities for participation in N.C.C., Scouts & Guides and Junior Red Cross programmes including other educational seminars, exhibitions, student-oriented competitions and Educational Tours.
